The EEF Supporting Fletcher Building Employee Alastair Wilson

Tuition provider: University of Queensland

Duration of EEF support: 2017 – 2020

Alastair has recently completed his Master of Business Administration.

Alastair’s comments: I have been with Fletcher Building for six years, initially with Stramit and two years in my current role. My day to day activities include partnering with and supporting a wide range of stakeholders and managing a large diverse team, so no individual days are the same. As part of my development program I decided to enrol in an MBA. The course included modules on management, marketing, leading teams and innovation, enabling me to develop my knowledge outside my core area of expertise. It took me out of my comfort zone including having to pitch a business proposal including a customer value proposition, marketing plan and a proof of concept to a group of potential investors.

Access to support from the Employee Educational Fund demonstrates the commitment FB has for the ongoing development of its people, a key attribute for all successful business, ensuring we have the tools to succeed in our current role and any future role. I have used the learnings from my MBA in all areas of my work with the value of knowledge demonstrated by the impact on the business and those people around you.

“After 3 years, multiple weekends and countless late nights, I proudly graduated in-front of my family. The course content along with the people I met provided new ideas and a different perspective enabling me to improve the way I approach my work environment.”
